Things to do around the Island

Lanzarote is an ideal place for the beginner or the more experienced windsurfer/surfer.  Schools are on the Los Pocillos beach in Puerto del Carmen and Las Cucharas in Costa Teguise and Famara village (surfing).  All equipment can be hired and there are courses for beginners.  It is recommended that all but the very experienced windsurf/surf only under organised arrangements.

Scuba Diving

The crystal clear waters around the island make scuba diving superb.  There are licensed diving centres in Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise and La Santa, who all offer instruction, equipment hire and tank filling, and welcome divers at all levels.  Diving in Spanish waters is strictly controlled and professional advice should be taken before attempting any diving activity.

The golf course can be found at Costa Teguise.  It is open to the public and there is a residential professional.  The course is an 18 hole course designed by John Harris.  All equipment is available for hire and correct dress is required.  Par for the course is 72, standard scratch 72.  For more information contact the course on 928 590512.

La Santa Sport

Across the island on the northern coast is the purpose built holiday sports village.  The centre offers a wide range of facilities.  These include windsurfing, cycling, a running track, football pitches, tennis, mini golf and lots more.  The surf centre offers packages including tuition, transport and lunch.  There is a children's adventure playground, swimming pool and lagoon all self contained with bars, restaurants and shops.  Telephone 928 599999 for further information.

Game Fishing

Game fishing can be arranged in Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca.  You should also try the Marina at Puerto Calero where there are crafts which can be hired fully crewed for organised fishing trips.

There are numerous tennis courts in all of the resorts.  Hotel and complex tennis courts can normally be booked by non residents by the hour.

Noisy but fun for all ages!  There is a well equipped kart track in San Bartolome and Puerto del Carmen, open daily until dusk.

Horse Riding

There are centres in Puerto del Carmen.  One is situated just off the Macher to Yaiza road at Rancho Texas.
